I don't know about 4ws being a main reason why the wheelbase is reduced, but coupes are not intended to be 'practical' purchases (that's what the hatch & tourer versions are for).

Therefore, I would believe that the vehicle would be reduced in length for the benefits of aesthetics, sharpening up the handling, and less weight to carry around.

I wish they had made more of an effort at the front-end (too similar to the regular models), as its a fine-looking car from every other angle.

My only warning would be to check the resale values of this car versus its rivals, as even though its better value, the more expensive option, may prove cheaper to own.
