Re: ECU location for Renault 5?

Si - hopefully this may be of some help:

Try tracing the cables back from the spark plugs and distributor / electronic ignition module (depending on what you have fitted, i've owned old-but- ECU 'd cars with both) and seeing what you end up finding. It shouldn't be TOO far away from the dizzy/EIM, crankshaft rotation and coolant temperature sensors (typically gearbox-end of engine). May be located near or with the main fuse box, but not necessarily.

They tend to be heavy duty but not especially large devices, once you've found and opened the box - should it actually be in one. The box is only to protect it from dirt and moisture, if it's somewhere that's already proof from that it may not need one. Imagine an armour-plated NES cartridge with a chunky plug attached to one end and you won't be far off

Also don't be too discouraged if this doesn't solve your problem, I can't think of much that would go wrong with the ECU itself that wouldn't just kill the engine outright. Your problem is much more likely to be in the temp sensor, timing mechanicals, or the idle adjustment servo.
Currently in tahrey's garage:
Honda CG125, Scott Voltage MX5, dirt, lots of random bottles and tools, porktastic Clio III DCi, dodgy shelves...
