Re: What's the scariest car failure you've had while driving?

Scariest moment was when a front wheel bearing seized pulling the car in towards the lay-by which was occupied by a low-loader. Luckily we hit the grass first, veered back onto the road and came to park perfectly in front of the truck. The tyre had a massive flat spot from the skid.

Not the scariest but: I worked for a company that had a fleet of ERF EC10s and the throttle stuck open at 56mph on the motorway just as I was joining the M25 at the M40 junction. I managed to get in to Reading before the rush hour started and any problems arose. I had to turn off the ignition at all traffic lights so it didn't rev itself to death!

Then there was the Volvo whose accelerator inverted, so, idle was depressed and full revs were foot-off. That was an artic so imagine how many interesting gear changes I had to do as I went through central London one Saturday morning.

All fun and games....
