I'm backing all the guys who are telling you to give it an Italian tune-up. 2nd gear along an open road at the highest revs you can stand. There is an additive made by Comma that also helps. Put it in an almost empty tank. Do the Italian tune-up. Then fill with fresh diesel. it generally gets rid of the smoke which is what you need. No smoke no pollution. No emmissions no MOTfailure. You CAN have your fuel pump, calibrated, tuned and [usually] improved a bit. But there's alot of expensive bits in a diesel fuel system
