Am new to the forum and hoping that someone can help/advise.

I have a Modus and tried opening the drivers window after the car had been sat in the sun for some time. The window appeared stuck to the rubber trim and refused to move. Then a loud crack and the window started to move then stopped.
I've taken the door panel off and looked inside the door and there was a piece of broken blue plastic in the bottom of the door. it looks like this attaches to a guide rail and the window.

Has anyone had this problem or knows where i might source a replacement part? Local dealer has never been very helpful.

Modus Regulator

Thanks to all for your help.

I have exactly the same problem and i didn't know about the warranty till i read this forum.

Although i am over the warranty (5yrs, 54k) the customer support are willing showing me some goodwill (80%).

So thanks all, this has been valuable information for me.

I had the same problem with the little bit of blue plastic in the winding mechanism breaking. Mine (drivers side) went in a snowstorm (perhaps the cold weakened the plastic). Needless to say I was somwhat dischuffed as there was rather a lot of white stuff coming through the (now permanently open) window. I took the inner door skin off, ripped a hole in the door membrane (I couldnt see any neat way of removing it) & wedged the window shut with a length of wood.

I looked at this forum and, as the car is 3 yrs, 10 months old & has done 66K miles went to my least unfavourite Renault dealer to claim my free repair.

They wanted to charge £80 to investigate the problem - which they would waive if the fault was diagnosed as being suitable for an extended warranty claim.

They looked at the vehicle and decided that the fault was covered (they quoted 5 yrs & 90K miles for the extended guarantee period).

They replaced the driver & passenger side mechanisms as part of the same job and only charged me £36 to replace the door membrame which I had 'vandalised' (my pleas of being buried alive in snow at the time fell on deaf ears). Apparently they are able to remove & replace an undamaged membrane and so do not need to fit a new one (dunno how - the things look pretty well stuck on to me).

Anyway, all's well that ends well.

Btw: If you plan to rummage around inside the door as I did be aware that theres a lot of sharp edges in there - I now have a very impressive gash across one of my knuckles......

Hi, I have just fixed this same problem on my wife's Modus - the broken part is the clip that holds the glass to the regulator and cannot be bought separately. Personally speaking the Renault part is very poorly designed and manufactured. I bought a replacement regulator from wingmirrorman.co.uk which is far better made. It cost £60 and is not not too hard to fit - I did it in about 2 hours from start to finish and I am no qualified mechanic - just a reasonably competent DIYer. Two hints you cannot get the inner membrane off as it will just tear, but you can split it carefully with a knife and peel it back enough to remove the old regulator and fit the new one, then just gaffer tape it back together when you have finished, and when working inside the door beware there are sharp edges in there you could shave with :)

Hope this helps someone.

Hi mate, I took your advise and contacted wingmirrorman about a new part and they asked if it was a 2 pin motor or 6 pin motor so I was wondering if you may be able to help me find out. My Modus is and 05 model.
Any help in finding out would be very grateful.

Since my last post I have been doing a bit of research. I came across a thread on a French Renault forum on the same subject and found a reference to a 'note technique No 0884A which refered to an OTS 0B00 - Further research turned up a copy of this technical note in English. It refers to 'loss of operation of a FRONT electric window' and says that if this occurs on certain vehicles (see below) that are under five years old and have done less than 93,000 miles then not only should the failing regulator be replaced, but the other side should be serviced or replaced.

So maybe we shouldn't be so grateful that Renault dealers are kindly replacing these regulators free of charge, they are only doing what they should, but haven't been telling anyone. For those of you who have been quoted lots of money to fix the problem it may be worth checking whether your vehicle is likely to be covered by this - I for one am bl**dy anoyed, as my wifes car is one of those that is covered.

which cars are covered is a bit complicated because it depends on the build numbers, but you need to look at the fourth to seventh character of your VIN (on a lable on the central door pillar about level with the drivers seat)

If characters 4-6 are FP0 and character 7 is C,D,E,T,G or K

or

If characters 4-6 are JP0 and Character 7 is 1,2,3,8,A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,J,K,P,S,T,U,V or Y

then it is likely that this technical note applies to your car, but it looks as though Renault dealers won't admit to it (at least that seems to be the French experience and is bourne out by the experience of people on here.

My Passenger window made a big cracking noise and now doesnt work.

I have a modus 05 plate with only 36k on the clock.

I phoned Renault UK and they told me they do not give out any extended warranty and neither does the vehicle qualify for the Renaults good will.

I then went to my local Renault garage for a second opinion, they told me that they do not cover the Modus but do cover the window regulators on Scenics and Meganes in which they will cover 75% of the cost to 100,000miles. I was then told to try Renault UK again and see if they could cover me with the good will they do for the other models.

I phoned Renault back on the phone, the chap confirmed that they would not help me financially. They also said that the window regulator was NOT a well known fault with the vehicle and basically told me that Renault had never given out an extended warranty for this problem and would only cover the cost under certain curcumstances like the vehicle being less than 3 yrs old.

So please read and be warned. Although everyone else seemed to have success, ive had no luck atall.

Im noway paying £300-400 for the repair so if anyone can send me any links to other posts or pics or anything to help with removing door panels and doing the job myself, that would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for reply.

Well basically the motor is still working as it does attempt to move the glass and it will move a little both up and down, followed by the cracking sound and then it stops.

I am also having to pull the glass up with my hands to keep it shut as it is slipping down slightly.

Is this likely to need a new regulator or just a £20 repair kit?

Thanks again.

Hi, the window regulator failed on my 54 plate Modus. I learned on here that it's an inherent fault. I contacted Renault customer services. They were very helpful. The regulators are covered by warranty for three years or 70,000 miles. Although my car was five years old at the time, I had only done 30,000 miles, so they arranged for the local Renault garage to replace not only the faulty regulator, but the one on the other side. By the way, the garage did not initially inform me of this, and were going to charge me! I suggest you contact Renault customer services. They were very helpful and polite.

I've not been so lucky, the drivers window regulator broke through normal use and the dealer quoted £332 all in to fix. I called Renault Customer Services and after a fairly lengthy conversation i was only offered 20% off of the price. Apparently it is because my Modus is 5 years old even though it only has 30.000 miles on the clock. Oh well thats better than nothing I suppose.:(

Further to my last response, i have since had the time to open the door up and view the offending article for myself and shock horro,r the motor is fine and the only problem is a broken plastic clip. This item is available on ebay for £10, in my case this is a saving of £321.80 on the price that Renault quoted after inspecting the mechanism. It is absolutely shocking that they have the power to rip people off. I would urge everybody to remove their door panel, use a craft knife to cut a neat hole in the membrane and remove the 3 nuts that secures the mechanism to the door frame; it might just save you hundreds of pounds.

Just for info....

Rather than replace the whole regulator at considerable cost you can get kits off ebay for £18 to repair your existing regulator as it's usually just the clip at the bottom of the window that breaks.

My partners decided to break on Sunday ordered the kit from OSCO on ebay and it came today took about 2 hours to fit from start to finish. The clip itself seems alot stronger than the original weak renault part.

Here's a link to the kits

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/osco_ltd/m.h...&_odkw=&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3911.c0.m270.l1313

You can either buy just the clip for £10.99+p&p or the clip, wires and spool for £18.99 delivered.

Just thought this may help somebody...

First many thanks to all the above for very useful info. I have a 2005 1.6 Modus automatic but it has only done about 15,000 miles. Now in Spain and the same thing happened to me. Needless to say, there are problems with getting the problem solved in the local garage.
Havig read the thread I'd rather find out myself what is wrong. I have taken off the screws at the bottom of the door, the two holding the speakers in and the one in the door handle recess but the door panel still refuses to budge. Is there any way I can get the panel off without damaging it?

I have just experienced the dreaded snapped plastic clip holding the window to the winder mechanism on my 04 30k modus. Just another sorry tale to add to the Sunroof that stopped working and is now jammed shut after I refused to pay £1500 to have it fixed, the faulty coils and the sticking petrol flap.
Man I so hate this car and it couldn't have come at a worse time - my wife visiting her mother in a coma in hospital and the window bloody breaks in the car park. Gets bloody soaked with all the rain and the 80 mph wind - needless to say she is very upset.

Anyway rant over - remove the bottom screws. Remove the screw in the door handle . Prise up the internal door closer and the plastic bit that holds the window /mirror switches. Unclip the electrical connectors Pull the top half of the door card towards you and then the rest of the door card you push upwards. Then you could slit the internal membrane near the bottom to probably find in all it's glory the broken blue plastic clip - nice piece of shoddy engineering

Can someone explain the term regulator as used with the window problem, please? I still need to open my Modus's left rear doorafter an apparent cracking noise was heard today. The glass can be pulled up and pushed down by hand easily. The motor does run, but a "flapping" noise is heard, almost as if a piece of cable is swung around in the door. Some advice, please

You'll need to take the door card off to be sure, but the plastic clips that hold the glass to the regulator are a common failure. These can be found on ebay or at the dealer

The regulator is the mechanism that winds the window up and down

Thanks Pat.w. It was indeed an easy task to take the window winder mechanism out. It was the plastic "clip" which holds the glass and connects it to the regulator that was broken. I found a person who specialises in repairing these mechanisms (he replaced the clip and one of the two cables which got damaged a bit) at a FRACTION (less than 7,5%) of the cost of a complete mechanism from Renault's stores.
