for the past 3 years I have had failures on emissions for my clio. the average score 6.3m-1 and the score needed is 3.0m-1.
Therefore last year, I drove my car har for 2-3 days whilst comutting to work.
This passed with flying colours.
This Year, i drove the car hard, only on the day of the MOT, 20 Miles.
However it failed. The strange thing is, after I took it out of the MOT garage, there was a severe amount of smoke( white/grey) whilst driving really carefully.
This smoke has now gone away. The guys at the MOT station advised me to put an additive Redex, then thrash the car, then possibly replace the fuel filter, as the fuel filter is coming upto 30,000 usage.
I don't want to put an additive in my car, considering I have followed the service interval, throughout its lifetime.
My question is, I drive my car like a granddad, and have only done 6,000 miles this year. Why do I need to thrash the car to get it passed the emissions?
My fuel economy is A1, averaging 75 mpg (trip computer reading), due to my grandaddy style of driving, is this the reason why?
or possibly the neglect of 18,000 mile
change and 36,000 fuel filter changes during its lifetime?
Thanks in advance for any advise
