10 for a 2nd hand pump is a great price, you've done well with that.

Have you actually tried to see if your ABS is working or not when the lights are on or off?

You will not loose any fluid by removing the ECU , the fluid is in the valve block so you will only loose fluid by loosening the bake pipes to the valve block.

I'm not sure if it's actually possible to remove the ECU from the pump with it in situ, the ecu has to move away from the pump so that the prong clears the valve block, I'm not sure if there is enough space behind the ECU do this, maybe there is, I just can't remember.

There is a hole in the bracket to get to the lower Torx bolt on the motor see the picture below

For bleeding the brakes you don't need the ignition on.
