Have you actually tried to see if your ABS is working or not when the lights are on or off?
You will not loose any fluid by removing the
, the fluid is in the valve block so you will only loose fluid by loosening the bake pipes to the valve block.
I'm not sure if it's actually possible to remove the
from the pump with it in situ, the
has to move away from the pump so that the prong clears the valve block, I'm not sure if there is enough space behind the

For bleeding the brakes you don't need the ignition on.
