I think compulsary servicing would be safer to be honest but would be too difficult to do. The test is week in my opinion, this change will help, but engine lights are normaly not a fault with the car that is a safety issue, normaly faulty sensors or the likes. I think the OBD2 idea was great, same connection and system for all cars, but manufactures still used their own systems! needs to be internationaly agreed to cut costs by using full generic systems, then cars will be safer cause people will pay the reduced prices. Its costs and poor mechanical knowledge that causes dangerous cars, and thats what the MOT is ment to stop, but as i say, stupid rules and a week system may as well not exist. Needs a change.
