I ran an emery board over the earth pins on the clusters but that had no effect. I noticed, by error, when putting the light cluster back in that a wiggle on the wire on one side seemed to cure the problem. Having noted this I ran the emery board over the pin again and bent the female connector slightly and the problem that side was cured. Did the same to the other side and cured also.
Can't really work out how it could be down to what I did as there was no corrosion on the pins and how they would have lost their connection at the same time I don't know. Seems very bizarre indeed if you ask me!
I shall wait to see if the problem returns.........
