Wow - given that the pipe you describe is the engine's main fresh air intake, it's a wonder that it ran at all! I've been told that there's no point in fitting custom intake kits to these engines because the OEM airways are already over-spec, I guess this proves it...
What about the short, corrugated pipe that connects the
to the exhaust manifold? That's probably less important in terms of smooth running (if it clags up then the system acts just like the
is closed, i.e. full power albeit slightly higher NOx emissions), but keeping it clear is good for environmental protection ... and you don't want a large lump of coke suddenly breaking free and making its way into the
or inlet manifold...
