Bonnet Cable Snapped At Catch End! (Megane 2005)

Just went to change a sidelight bulb on the Megane (a nightmare in its own right) and can't get into the bonnet.

I've had the glovebox out to see if I was 'lucky' enough that the cable might have snapped from the internal pull, but it's all attached there and tugging on the cable has led by to believe it has eithe come off at the catch end or snapped.

Prior to this, there was no warning or tell-tail signs of any problems and the catch operation was very smooth.

There is a post on getting into a Laguna's bonnet, but I've not found anything for the Megane (except one post that suggests getting it on a ramp and checking from below but nobody posted back to see if it could be done).

Can anybody please point me in the right direction as to how to go about getting the bonnet open with no (or very little) damage?
