MOT time, what to look out for?

Hi all, I haven't been on here for ages! This is my 3rd Clio, a 52 plate Dynamique 1.4. It's soon MOT time (beginning of April). I intend putting new front tyres and wiper blades etc on before then. Is a pre-MOT check worth the dosh to avoid a fail? There's nothing obvious that jumps out at me that needs sorting.

The suspension is loud, crashy and harsh at low/crawling speed on uneven surfaces/potholes and has been this way since I bought it in April 2011. Is this a common thing?

I've only taken 1 car for an MOT so far so not sure how to go about things.

What are common things to look out for with these age Clios?

Any thoughts/suggestions are much appreciated.

Regards, Jon-Paul
