Either the plug is wet or dirty ( most likely) or the junction is cracked. The fact that it works at all makes the latter unlikely. The joint might be cracked but still rubbing together, but generally it should either work or not.
Funny that you should say that, I was just wondering the same myself because over the weekend I was using a 9" angle grinder cutting bricks and there was one hell of a lot of dust over the car. Just washed of the temp sensor on the drivers side mirror, then turned on the ignition and go a lot more sensible 18C I don't know if it is that yet, I need see what the morning brings.
