Hi Lou, the 1st thing I would check would be the CV joint, normally noticible on full lock turns, you could also try jacking up the front left of the car and grasping the top and bottom of the tyre and try to rock it. Movement can indicate wheel bearings. After that it could be down to loose bolts on the suspension strut.
Also before trying the above check the wheel nuts are all tight, if not that can cause a knocking.
