If the existing captive nuts are furbarred you can use roofing self-tapping screws which come with their own large washers. They rae usually known as cladding bolts. Most decent building suppliers stock them and are usually plated to resist corrosion.
See attached picture for an example.
the tray that has arrived has one of these screws poking through the tray.
i suppose that the worse thing i could do would be to tyrap it in place - fortunately i have a "pit" in the garage so it should be easy. in a few places i'll be able to get a bolt and a nut on the other side...
i have no idea the condition of the captive nuts at the mo' until i get under it.
