Abs light!

Hi guys, I have a Laguna 1.9 dci 56 plate with the abs light stuck on. A couple of weeks ago I went through a large puddle and it came on. Shortly after it went and I thought nothing of it. Over the next week or so the problem came back( when it was wet ) and now it won't go off. I have found the problem on the front passenger side which is a small split in the plastic on the sensor cable. The cable itself is not damaged. I have took the car to a garage near me who has tried to reset the ecu but he couldn't do it. So I'm out of pocket on that one and I've just been made redundant too so I don't want to keep spending money on it.
Is there any other way to reset the ecu to get rid of the abs light? Can I disconnect the battery for a period of time to do it. I'd be grateful for any advice.
