Hi Chris, I dont think there is any need to disconnect the battery,theres no power to it untill ignition turned on. and presuming the same layout there is no reason to take a wheel off. On my car, a scenic you can just about see it standing next to the car on the nearside looking behind the engine but to reach it you have to stand in front. a mirror and torch might help to find it. some are supposed to have a clip of some sort but mine was wiggle and pull hard. If it turns out to be a wiring problem its awkward as the plug wont come up very far to check connections, on mine the grey wire is signal. black is ground and yellow is 12v, might be different on yours.
