Laguna 2.2Dci grinding when steering, poor mpg

Hi everyone

This is my first post here, a couple of days ago my old car failed its mot, so I bought a 52 laguna. It seemed fine on the test drive. When I got it home I noticed a rattle from the engine bay, seems cambelts due. Then I noticed a grinding when steering and I noticed I'm getting 28 mpg, my misses drives with a light foot at 70 mph we get 29 mpg in 6th.

I'be seen threads about the mpg, but no fix.

From what I have read I'm going to, check steering fluid when light. Check the bushes as they was an advisory on Mot, (not sure if this will fix it). Get the egr cleaned (not sure how to do it myself) reset the ecu and remove the maf . I hope this works any other suggestions? Kinda gutted as I have little dosh left.
