Talking Re: 2001 clio 1.2 16v sunroof leak

hi there, only checked first page of this thread as new user, but didn't need to go any further, or don't know if there is a #fixed# assigned to this question thread, but im a windscreen fitter by trade and have done countless renault clio mk 1 and 2 leaking sunroofs, and it's quite simple why it leaks, if it isn't the drainage holes that are blocked and they have been unblocked already, then it will more than likely be your sunroof external body seal that has deteriated.

it is a very simple fix, but long winded removal

you have to remove interior light unit, vanity mirrors and fixing brackets, interior grab handles, headlining metal inserted rubber protection seal around sunroof, unclip the opening handle on sunroof, there has to also be removal of inner a post, b post trims and upper quarter glass trim removed, on both sides of interior. then there are about 14-16 10mm socket fixing bolts on the underside metal fixing guard of sunroof, once all these have been removed gently pull drainage pipes off, then exit the inside of vehicle, and with the help of a thin plastic scraper something like a body filler applicator, try and get under a corner and very gently try to lift the outer sunroof frame and once you see it lifting run the scraper around to break the seal between frame and body.

once removed from vehicle get a hairdryer or heat gun and on lowest setting warm up the foam sealant and remove from both body of car and outer frame of sunroof. once this has been fully removed, get some cloth and some isopropanoyl and clean around body and frame to make sure completely clean. then purchase a windscreen fitting kit which will come with a priming agent and a tube of polyurethane fixing bond.

before you apply the priming agent mask up around the body of car, you should see an old frame mark, mask up to this mark and mask approximately 5" extra area around for safeguard.
once masking tape is applied, apply the priming agent to the outer edge of sunroof frame, and inside the old frame mark, leave 10-15 minutes to dry, then use a small nozzle at a 45 degree angle, then apply a small bead of polyurethane sealant onto the primed area of the body.

gently fit sunroof frame and gently compress down, then immediately return inside the vehicle, lift inner sunroof guard and lightly fit the 10mm bolts then go round and evenly tighten up the 10mm bolts, once tightened go back outside and clean up any residue that has squeezed outside the outer frame. remove the masking tape and clean up any sealant if any left, then refit is reversal of removal then stand back and admire your handywork.

this should cure the problem as i have never had any comebacks.

just a word of warning though DO MAKE SURE YOU REFIT DRAINAGE PIPES BEFORE HEADLINING GOES BACK UP, or you will curse and swear a lot

hope this helps with this problem
