When assembled new they smear the splines with thread locking compound - sometimes a gentle heat with a gas blow lamp is sufficient to help free it.
In the past I have thumped the end of the shaft with a hammer using a piece of hard wood as a protector - then retighten the big nut. The last time on my Clio I repeated this around 20 times before it eventually began to move.
Do not not use high temperatures as this will harm the drive shaft.
Many garages remove the hub complete with drive-shaft still attached and use an hydraulic press so expect labour costs and materials costs to increase somewhat.
