Do Convertibles feel different to drive with the roof up to the roof down?

As per title really.

Though i've only just really bought my Megane CC, today i finally had a 5 minute break in the weather to have to opportunity to drop the roof and drive it. I was surprised to find that it feels and handles like a different car compared to when the roof it up.

I suppose i could understand that the roof may offer additional rigidity, but i just want to check that this is normal for most convertibles?

Its only just passed its MOT so i know it isn't broken in some way.
