Tar spots on water based paint, any change?

Normal procedure for me on solvent metallics:

Once or twice a year ,generally in the summer months when tar is softer and there are more spots:
clean spots off with a petrol soaked rag
dab in paint to stone chips.
Wash and chamois car
reapply polish as rubbing with petrol soaked rag is gonna take it all off.
This worked fine for me.

Now the whole finish is water based ,should the routine be varied?

Currently in coup's garage:
RM III coupe 1.5dci FVT,Audi TT Mk1 ,a bike and too much rubbish.
