What's you're view on restrictors bonedavid? I can see why there is a desire to have limits on heavy vehicles - my guess is braking distances, road noise and stability or the usual reasons. But having the vehicle run out of all oomph when it hits 56mph is surely just going to result in 10 minute overtaking manoeuvres up dual carriageway hills.
Plus, I assume it does nothing to stop trucks building up speed downhill?
I can see a day when we'll get these in our cars and, after trying out the speed limiter in the Laguna when I test drove it, I'm not too keen on the idea. Having a limiter there for when driving through areas such as roadworks is useful - I'd get use to the weird feeling of the car taking over when you hit 50mph - but I wouldn't if it weren't for the ability to use kickdown to override it when you're in a position where you do need to accelerate.
