Re: Advice please on buying 2nd hand Scenic

Hey there,

OK common problems -

Check all electric windows, it's likely at least one won't work

Check the heater fan on ALL speeds. The resistor pack fails - very common.

Key cards - Is there one or two? Have they ever been replaced? Failures are getting more common and Renault relieve you of £140 for a new one.

If the mileage is unusually low, it's likely to be wrong. Digital dash is a big failure (it was on Watchdog for it) and when a new one is put in, the mileage starts from zero again. Old MOTs for mileage proof are a must!

I would avoid the 1.9 dCi diesel completely. Very prone to turbo failures which leads to intercooler problems etc. 1.5 dCi is MUCH better.

The 1.4 petrol is very underpowered, the 1.6 is ok, but the 2.0 16v Petrol is well worth waiting around for (they're quite rare).
