The subject of fitting aftermarket gas discharge lamps keeps coming up on every forum. My understanding is that most of the suppliers of aftermarket kits suggest that it is not illegal to convert from conventional halogen to gas discharge bulbs , provided the colour temperature is not blue and the output remains 55/60 W. It will be very difficult for an MOT center to discriminate between a gas discharge lamp and an xtra bright white halogen item. Of course if the car is also fitted with headlamp wash then the test station may also want to check its operation and may suspect gas discharge lamps are fitted. In this case they may also check the self levelling. So ..if you fit gas discharge lamps , don't replace the bumper or buy new headlamps that have Xenon written on them. The aftermarket kits are plug and play anyway , so it will be easy to revert back if there are issues.
