Question braking failure ligth

rigth here gos, i brougth my car to a garage to get rear pads done. when i collected the car the machanic was sitting in it trying to get he ligth off with the computer. couldnt get it of so told me to drive it for a few days to see if it will go off by its self. few days later i brought it back and was told a sensor is gone and it will cost me between 120-300 euro without labour when i dropped the car to him first time it had no warning ligth and has had the ligth since. just want to know can he charge me for something that happend while he had my car, and what can i do about it. any one else have these waring ligths and what was the problem.
cheers wayne
