Handbrake Renault Grand Scenice 1.9dci 04

Is there any reason why I cant replace a Handbrake Unit myself in a Renault grand scenic 1.9dci 04, I do not have a Renault clip to program it. Someone is selling a new one for 325 as they didn't need it for there car. Will the Handbrake unit need programing in? When you stop the car it makes a loud screeching noise. Also it has said for a few months 'parking brake fault' but has only just started making that noise in the last few days. Also now the handbrake will not go on at all. All answers appreciated! Thanks.
