Bleeding brakes properly

can anyone advise if it is necessary to bleed the brake circuit via the ABS.

Renault Technical says you don't need to do this unless:
This procedure must be used after one of the following components has been removed or replaced:
the master cylinder,
the hydraulic unit,
the brake fluid,
the fluid reservoir.

Considering I am only changing my Brake Caliper, I'm assuming a normal bleed of the brake lines is required?

So how does the old brake fluid get removed from the ABS system, if the ABS system is never activated?
