Had exact same thing with Arnold Clark in Dumbarton with my rear boot lock mechanism. Kicked up a fuss as it had been replaced only 3 months prior. (car had gone over warranty mileage two months after lock fitted)

After getting put through to Renault service and had a long winded chat, I asked well do you fit refurbished parts then? Answer no they are new. Question, well everything sold/supplied by law is required to have a 12 month manufacturers warranty is it not? And the works should surely have a warranty on them too.

He wouldn't back down, however they did supply a brand new lock free of charge and fitted it.

Apparently as Renault have now paid for the lock, then I have a years warranty on the lock now.

Result for me, however I imagine it would be a bit difficult with more expensive items.
