Lift the edges of the rubber boots on the cylinders and have a look inside. Any signs of corrosion of leaking is not a good sign.

Whilst the drum may look OK it may be well out of shape but an MOT test usually detects severe signs of ovality.

Also try filing a 45 dgeree angle edge to both the leading edge and trailing edges of the shoes.

Brake drums and shoes are porous and can retain quite a bit of moisture when not used or get up to working temperature.
