Get the charging system checked over and have the battery load tested, that should pinpoint the problem with the battery fault showing up. 7 years out of the original battery is good going and it may be on it's last legs. Most fast fit places will do this for free.
I'd check the level in the brake fluid reservoir as a low level could throw up the warning light as you corner. If the car is still on the original pads then they too are probably on their last legs. Again it's probably best to have them checked before you head off on hols with the car.
If you're reasonably confident with a set of spanners then there are some decent "how to" posts showing how to change the pads on the Scenic II, but if you're in any way unsure then leave it to a professional. You don't get a second chance if the brakes fail !
