I was tempted when I had my windscreen replaced a few weeks back, but didn't fancy taking on the wiring. It's definitely on a separate circuit to the heated rear window, and I think the nature of these critters means that you have to be careful how long they run for, as you can easily burn out the elements (well I vaguely recall reading that somewhere.)

You'd think it'd at least be an option on the Initiale, and indeed it was (at 250 quid, I think) when I ordered mine... but only on the petrol engined models. I've since noticed that you can have it as an option on the diesels too now, but that's too late for me.
