If it's anything like the heated screen we had on our Ford Fungus then they only work with the engine running and switch off automatically after 4 minutes.

Replacing the screen itself shouldn't be a problem, but running the wires up the pillars etc may add to the hassle, and may make it not worth the inconvenience or expense.

Heated windscreens are great for defrosting and demisting if you dont have air con.
If you have air con then the screen probably demists just as quickly. You don't have the benefit of defrosting though with air con.

Also with the Ford system it works in conjunction with heated washer jets as well. Don't know about the renault system.
