I had an alarm fitted on my 98 RXE when it was new. It was the Renault 'Gold' alarm package, which actually turned out to be a Sigma branded unit.

If it's the same as mine, then the control box should be under the driver's seat - just move the seat as far forward as it will go, and then lift the carpet flap from the rear footwell. If memory serves me correctly, you should find a black box under there, and if you open it up, the alarm module will be inside.

I doubt they'll have wired in the immobiliser, as the car already has a perfectly good one, so you should be able to just unplug the alarm box and get rid of the noise. Unfortunately, I can't really give you any pointers on getting it working properly again.
