I'm sure others on the forum can offer you alternative theories but it could be something as simple as a small stone or other foreign object caught between a pad and brake disc. It happened to me once with a tiny stone and caused an extremely loud metallic sounding noise in first gear and reverse - it sounded really terrible and I thought something was seriously wrong!

Is the noise on one side or both sides? Front or back or both?

Perhaps you should take it back to the garage and get them to sort it out since they put the new pads in.
