Just out of interest, I have only attempted getting this type of joint off once and was unsuccessful, do you hit it with the hammer directly or put a punch or a chisel close to the center of the joint and hit on it?

I ask this because, on the Japanese cars they also say tap it off, but the only way to get them off is with an angle grinder.

The fork type joints(part of the shaft) are quite easy to disassemble and re assemble once you get the hang of it, off course you still need a cone to fit the boot.
