I'm about to change my 2002 Scenic tailgate and after reading this thread I have to ask wouldn't it be better to cut the wires and just rejoin them?

If the colour codes are the same then shouldn't be a problem and I would solder and insulate with heat shrinkable tubing!

I would of course make the connections on a part of the loom that sits inside either the tailgate or main body (assuming there was enough slack in the loom) rather than in the section of loom that is covered by the rubber boot, so as to avoid flexing of the soldered joints.

Anyone have any views on the above method?
