Wink Leroy needs help with Mondeo?

Hi guys I know this is not Renault related but as you are all great guys I'm sure someone can help, my old friend next door has a 95 Mondeo Zetec and has had problems with the tickover. I've changed the plugs and airfilter for him and it seemed a bit better but when it's been driven for a while the tickover at standstill drops to below 2000rpm, also when changing gear sometimes the revs stay way up so now I'm thinking that the throttle cable may be sticking or worn out. Any advice gratefully appreciated.
Regards Leroy
