Thanks do much for your advice, I really don't want to speak to him tbh, he'll just wind me up hence the letter, I'm posting it 1st thing Monday, but yeah defo sounds like the pulley broke.

When I went to look at the car 1st, it drove lovely, apart from the brakes which juddered. He would come down on price so in return said he'd fix all the faults and do a timing belt swap, the list is as follows

Front Brakes
Service light on
Airbag light on
Sidelight out
Rear screen wash not working
Air on not working
Timing belt replacement

He allowed us to take the car then as my girlfriend needed the car urgently as her last car got wrote off so we dropped it off the following weekend and he lent us a car (an hour and a half round trip from Ipswich)

2 weeks later we rang him he said the car was ready, but when we arrived (another hour and a half drive) there were still some things not fixed

Service light still on
Rear wash wipe not working
Air con not working

We were quiet frustrated, but he said he'd payed a specialist garage down the road to do it and it was their fault, so gave us the telephone number for them, and told us to take it up with them. We rang them straight away but they couldn't fit us in until the weekend after.

Another hour and a half trip and we went to the garage, and they were brilliant and fixed all the faults bar the air con, and mentioned how appalled they were at how *** had treated us and they said they would send the bill to him.

Anyway we drove him with a sigh of relief and everything was fine . That was until a few weeks later when the car broke down. We had no breakdown cover so had to pay to have it towed to a I dependant garage because we were unaware we had a warranty with the car. The garage stripped the engine down and found the timing belt had snapped , so we immediately rang ****** who said it was nothing to do with him and to ring his mechanic, so we did. His mechanic said he would find the timing belt receipt and ring us back but he never did.

In the meantime we told the garage to stop work as a family friend who is a mechanic said he'd repair the engine for us for just parts, so we had the car transported to him still thinking we had no warranty as ********** had fobbed us off. Our friend stripped the engine down further and discovered the engine was unrepairable , this is when we contacted trading standards for advise.

Bare in mind while all this is going on, my girlfriend has no transport and is walking her daughter to school and walking to work doing 5 miles a day! Because I live in Yorkshire I couldn't help her.

Now we knew our rights we rang **** back and he eventually agreed (after much debate) to collect the car and repair it under warranty.

A week later, ****** rings us back saying the timing belt company wouldn't accept responsibility as the belt had been cut! Now I don't know how this could of happened , but he was saying the car had been sabotaged, which I'll rubbish, because it broke down while she was driving it and why would she give her self the inconvenience???

Anyway he said he would have to pay for it with his own money and refused to do anything unless we payed half of the 1200 he been quoted , but all we could raise was 300 which he accepted in the end and also lent us another car, nearly 2 months later, we went to collect the car (another 1hr an a half round trip), and low and behold there was a "check injection" message on the dash, but the mechanic said he'd sent it to an auto electrician who read the code as a fault with the heater :s ,and said the other garage must of messed with the electronics as there was a bare wire connected to the battery and the car would not start with out it, and said he could not spend any more on the car and that the car ran OK and nothing was wrong with it.

Because we were sick to the back teeth with >>> and his mechanic, we just took the car as it was, and just put up with the message. In the 2 months after having it back it intermittently ran rough and had a significant loss of power, until the other day when it stopped working at all.

I hope you all understand why I can't face this man anymore, he actually makes my blood boil, and cant believe he's put us through this torment, and to top it off spent a fortune in fuel going back and forth to him.

We are now left with a car that doesn't run, and no money.

The only good thing is I own 2 cars, a 1995 Honda civic for going to work, and a sports car for the weekend, so I'm driving down to loan her the civic and gonna catch a train home.

This guy has caused us so much inconvenience I could scream!
