Re: Fix or Scrap

Fuel (petrol or diesel) is very damaging to paint.

In the past, all paint layers (apart from primer) were solvent-based, therefore, an organic compound (such as a petrochemical) will dissolve through the layers.

Modern paint-spraying methods have water-based paint thoughout EXCEPT for the lacquered clearcoat - which is solvent-based, however, the problem of erosion still exists - except that once the lacquer has been breached, simple rainwater will erode what's remaining.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
