I've seen a few master cylinders fail after the caliper pistons have been pushed back without the hose clamped & the bleed nipple open.
As madnoel points out you also have the ABS system to consider, that isn't cheap to fix if you do happen to have problems!

Also after the new pads have been fitted and you have to pump the brake pedal to bring them out to meet the discs, only use short strokes of the pedal, don't push it right down to the floor, just try to push it as far as you would during normal driving.

If using mole grips or the likes to clamp flexi hoses don't nip the hose too tight, and put a piece of cardboard or something round the hose first to protect it.
