I would attempt re-packing the CV boot first and then resecuring the boot to see if that improves the situation. Another thing to look at when the tyres off is for any stones wedged in the tread, as that would also give a noise on rotation.

Firmly believe in starting with the cheapest fix possible, and working your way up only if needed.

Otherwise you end up throwing the baby out with the bathwater or missing the root cause of the problem.

Re-packing a CV boot is definitely something which can be done as a DIY repair.
