I don't know what's been used on the boot (remember, it's already been opened-up), you may well have to look and measure first. Or, simply open, pack with grease and temporarily use a cable tie until you get a clip of the correct size (which would then be a priority, if the existing one cannot be re-used).

This is really just a process of elimination to see IF it's the CV joint, and IF it can be repaired, so I wouldn't go throwing lots of money at it, at this point.

Regarding the grease itself, I'd use something like this; A decent, independent car accessory shop would keep you right and save you on postage costs.
