Yes, it is very contradictory, and a huge difference.
Since there is no warranty on the car - no 'issue' regarding a payment will arise from a service interval being exceeded.
What I would suggest as a compromise would be meeting in the middle (20,000 km), and using top-grade
That way, you aren't servicing every 6,000 miles (which seems very low if it's not needed due to driving conditions), and the engine won't suffer as a result. VW has a similar set-up with 'long-life'
allowing for extra-long servicing intervals, and what this would do, is mirror that.
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
