It's going to be a scrap yard job me thinks.

You have a very limited amount of time to remove and replace the fuel sender unit on many modern plastic fuel tanks before they start to collapse / distort. They are designed to cope with fuel expanding the tank outwards.

Sounds like some one has had the sender unit out to long? Very very doubtful it will ever fit back in properly again ?
