Re: First time in 54 years

I havent changed the oil on a car in about 15 years.
The oil has been changed tho!
It just isnt worth the hassle and the oil is the major cost now.
I trust my local mechanic guy, not so much main dealers and "apprentices" but even they cant mess up an oil /filter change ..probably.
Ahh manys the happy hours I spent in my youth removing stuck oil filters with the ol leather belt spanner .
Cleverly using a tin snips on an old castrol gtx tin to make a catch container for the old oil (still managing to get 1/2 pint of oil everywhere).
Then the 3/4 full gtx tin on its side..hmm wth am I gonna do with this
My fondest memory is lying with a gearbox on my chest ,shift end supported on its mounting and lifting the bell end to try and align the main shaft, many times, thru the clutch I had aligned with a shaved broom handle,(not having a spare gearbox mainshaft as suggested by Haynes to hand). This wasnt on a transverse engine.
Nostalgia aint what it used to be

Currently in coup's garage:
RM III coupe 1.5dci FVT,Audi TT Mk1 ,a bike and too much rubbish.
