Re: Renault Scenic Handbrake Fault?

Hi There

I'm new to this so apologies in advance for any posting crimes I may commit.

I went on holiday for a week and on return found that the handbrake would not release on my 04 Scenic. Parking brake fault light and hideous beeping ensued.
So we called in the RAC who said it was probably the motor, he released it via the manual handbrake release. The handbrake will not engage now and lights and beeping still happen.

I have taken it to an independant garage as renault wanted 50 just to diagnose the problem. The garage ran it through their computer and confirmed it was the motor. I am a little sceptical as posts on this site seem to suggest this is a rare occurance. (I may have got the wrong end of the stick as I know nothing about cars)

To sum up I am wondering whether to try the various resetting methods or to bite the bullet and pay the 200 plus to get it sorted.

I have tried in vain to source a cheaper motor part but they seem few and far between.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks
