Clio III rear disc brakes - modified pads
After taking delivery of my Clio 1.6VVT GT Line last October, I took it back to my local dealer in Derby complaining of a binding noise from the nearside rear wheel, and also poor fuel consumption. They couldn't find anything wrong, and the noise persisted. After contacting Customer Services, the dealer looked at the car twice more over the following months, but still said they couldn't find anything wrong. Getting frustrated with the problem, I arranged to take the car to another dealer in Burton on Trent. They identified the problem as a known issue (since October 2010), showed me the service bulletin identifying the problem, and fitted modified rear brake pads which have cured the noise. The fuel consumption has improved by almost 4.5mpg too. I complained to Customer Services that the first dealer should have known about the problem when I took the car to them last October, and that as a result of them not identifying the known problem, had cost me £212 more on fuel than I should have done. I am disappointed to say that Renault UK dismiss this on the basis that the binding noise would not have caused any increase in fuel consumption, but ignore the fact that the car is now doing almost 4.5mpg more than previously. My advice? Stay clear of the dealer in Derby, and don't buy another Renault! I won't be.
The part number for the modified disc pads if you have the same problem is 440605713.
