Scenic II automatic handbrake fails on one side

Hi all, My scenic 1.4 2004 has just failed it's m.o.t, Main thing that's gone is the NSR brake not activating when auto handbrake applied, looking at the rear of the caliper I am missing the spring and the arm that the cable is attached to is fully back at the nut. I have found a local company that say they can do me the cable. but is there a way I can get the spring? also is there a quick way to see whether the cable or rear of caliper is seized without dismantling the whole system.

Thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully reply to this.
