I dunno, I had a poke around an optioned-up one in the stealership when I was in picking up my relays, and despite remaining committed to the cause of bangernomics I came away quite impressed with what thirteen grand could get you in 2012. It's a fair old slab of metal, lots of space, good seating position, you can actually get your legs under the wheel AND see all the warning lights, DCi with a six speed box (though still only 2WD), leather and fake walnut, decent though not decadent amount of toys (put it this way: every nice upgrade I went looking for, I found, but didn't run across any unexpected or surprising extras)... It was a fairly nice, if unpretentious place to sit.

Though it does look like you have to settle for it being left hand drive!

Something like (eight or?) nine grand for the base model, which is probably a lot more spartan, but if what you're after is a crossover style family transporter and don't mind not having a helium-cooled alcantara tin opener in the centre console it'd likely cover all the actual essentials.

(Maybe I'm weird but I tend not to spend a lot of time staring at the inside of my car other than regular glances at the instruments and an occasional check of the radio/clock display. The subtle design intricacies of the gearknob (of which there actually were a decent amount in the Duster) don't make much difference to me so long as it's comfortable in the hand and has an easily read shift pattern decal for any hard-of-thinking person who may borrow the vehicle. )
Currently in tahrey's garage:
Honda CG125, Scott Voltage MX5, dirt, lots of random bottles and tools, porktastic Clio III DCi, dodgy shelves...
